| however it's standard accepted industry practice to require rebuildable cores without damaged internal hardparts for core credit. The core return form that we send out with shipments that have a core charge associated with them, that must be completed and returned with the core, is clear on this issue. La-Z-Link It's no different than buying a performance longblock from us and sending back a core motor that is knocking and has spun a journal on the crankshaft. We are only going to refund partial core credit because important parts of the core are not rebuildable. Internal hardparts are damaged and we do not use turned crankshafts in our engine builds. In the case of the auto transmissions, the planetary gear assemblies are sometimes damaged if the transmissions ran without lubrication and got much too hot or experienced some sort of catastophic failure. The majoritiy of failures are usually caused by a clogged cooler or filter. Replacement planetary assemblies cost us considerably more than the $400 core charge, meaning that a core with bad planetary assemblies is virtually worthless to us. It's possible to get at least an idea if the planetarys are bad or not by pulling the shaft out of the front of the transmission and looking for excessive blueing and scaring on the back end, usually a tell tell sign that hardparts inside may be beyond repair, and it maybe not worth shipping the core back to us.
